The Terrell golfing community came out in full swing Saturday at the first-ever Paul E. Hutchison Memorial Golf Tournament at Oak Grove Golf Course.
Residents flocked to the tournament, which benefited Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children's Jack F. Edwards Dental Clinic.
Hutchison, the owner of Oak Grove, died in 2005.
We want this tournament to serve as a fitting tribute to our great friend and mentor, Paul Hutchison, said Bryant Martin, underwriting chairman of the event. We greatly appreciate everyone's support and time.
After the daylong tournament, sponsors, volunteers, players and patrons retired to the club's dining hall for dinner, an awards ceremony, live entertainment, an auction and a split-the-pot raffle.
This is all in support of children and it is such a great cause, said Pamela Holbert-Small. I'm so glad so many people could make it out to support all the work the hospital does for families.
The items being auctioned off included an authentic University of Texas football autographed by former national championship coach Darrell Royal and current national championship coach Mack Brown.
Among other items included a football autographed by Dallas Cowboy Terrell Owens, which will be featured in a local ad campaign in D Magazine, The Dallas Morning News and billboards across Dallas-Fort Worth. All the items went fast and in the end, the live auction raised more than $1,500 for the Scottish Rite Hospital's cause.
There were first-, second- and third-place awards for the winners of the golf tournament. The prizes were wrapped in blue boxes with white ribbons and presented to each player individually.
The event had raised more than $20,000.
We have taken great strides to ensure this golf tournament is top notch and it has been an honor and a privilege to be part of it, Martin said.
